My yellow notebook #15, MEINE SCHULE & WERKSTATTKONZERT NO.9

What kind of school must this be? An ex-principal hears that one of his ex-pupils wants to give workshop concerts and has an idea. The ex-pupil is delighted and things get rolling straight away.

The ex-principal talks to the current principal, who in turn can suggest a good concert venue and asks whether the ex-pupil would like to visit his old school the day before or after and meet the pupils from the sixth form.

It must be a good school. Yes, it is! There weren’t many particularly strong bonds between my hometown and me, but I always have fond memories of my school. It was here that I developed from a highly sensitive eccentric into a very self-confident young man. It was here that I was inspired, supported and encouraged to become who I am. I met a lot of teachers here who I was willing to go through fire for because they could inspire me in their own way. We were invited to have minds of our own, we didn’t have to paint by numbers. And it was here that I met my first true friends, people I looked forward to seeing again the next day, people in whose company I felt good, safe, liked and understood, with whom I could finally try out the things I had always wanted to do together. Here I got the feeling that it is very possible not to be alone with your own ideas about the world, that it is possible to be part of a community without having to bend and adapt.

My school provided me with a well-packed rucksack with which I could go out into the “big wide world”…

It was a wonderful moment last Wednesday evening when I was able to show the school and my old friends something of what I have become over the years; to be able to tell them about who I am with the piano. I was proud and happy while playing and the Yamaha grand piano – which I had criticized the day before – felt amazingly excellent!

BEST REGARDS WITH GREAT GRATITUDE!!!!
