At all times and in all places in the history of mankind, there have been women and men who stood up against the existing political and social mainstream. They stood up for their positions out of conviction, they fought for something that went beyond their own personal interests, they put their actions at the service of humanity as a whole. They did so even though they knew exactly what the consequences would be for their personal existence: from marginalization, vilification, ostracism to disbarment, persecution, imprisonment, torture and even execution or murder…
They deserve all my love and admiration. They should always be a role model for my own (in comparison ridiculously small) decisions and actions, I always carry them in my heart. They are my friends in spirit!
